El Paso, Texas — Today, the El Paso Young Democrats are urging representatives on the El Paso City Council to vote to suspend the construction of the downtown ‘arena’ and cultural center when asked to vote on the motion Tuesday. During this time of economic uncertainty not only for El Pasoans individually but for our city, ensuring the future economic security of our community must come first.
“Representatives Annello and Rodriguez are right in this,” J.J. Martinez, the organization’s president said. “Mayor Dee Margo’s assertion that these representatives are ‘politicizing’ the pandemic is abhorrent. If the mayor is comfortable discussing furloughing city employees and not two bond projects which will further rack up the city’s debt — a debt which El Pasoans will have to pay back — he should reexamine his priorities.”
The El Paso Young Democrats are urging all El Pasoans to call their city representatives and ensure they vote to suspend the construction of both centers.
The El Paso Young Democrats are the official chapter of the Texas Young Democrats — one of the largest partisan youth organizations in the nation — in the Borderland. As the official voice of young Democrats in El Paso County, the organization strives to empower young El Pasoans through community activism and policy involvement locally, statewide, and nationally.
